Torn - Visual Development

These drawings are concepts for a prospective thesis, Torn. The main character, Santiago, struggles with his place in the world and being accepted. When confronted with conflict, he must decide what kind of person he wants to be.

I did multiple explorations into how the story could be told visually - the shape language based on each of their personalities and motivations, how light and shadow could be used as a narrative tool, and what camera angles would best serve the story.

To the left is the first color scripts I made for the story. I wanted to explore the use of shadow to compliment Santiago’s internal struggle. During his internal battle he’s enshrouded in shadow, but as he begins to accept himself and choose who he wants to be, he steps out into the light.
